On this blog you will find weekly profiles on runners of all levels and ages, top 10 high school cross country boys and girls teams along with the top 25 times. You will be able to find schedules and results for high school cross country and track, the USA Track & Field Border Association meets and the many road races in El Paso.
El Paso will be well represented at the 2025 Texas UIL high school state track and field meet May 1-3 in Austin.
Fifteen El Paso athletes qualified for state in Classes 4A, 5A and 6A.
The top two finishers in each event earned an automatic berth to state. Athletes can also earn a wild card spot to the state meet.
El Paso High’s Miles Westbrook, right won the Region 1-5A championship in the 3,200 meters in 9:25 and the 1,600 meters in 4:21.08. Americas’ Diego Romero finished second in the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:21.60.
Class 6A
Eastwood’s Danny Torres won the Region 1-6A 3,200 8:51.4, breaking the regional record of 8:51.96 held by Southlake Carroll’s Reed Brown.
Torres will also compete in the 1,600 meters, earning a wild card spot. He finished third at regionals in 4:11.09, which was the next fastest time in the four regions across the state.
The Franklin boys relay teams also advanced to state – the 400-meter relay team Ernie Powers, Ikenna Chikwendu, Gerald Williams and Elias Munoz won the region in 40.96 seconds and the 1,600-meter relay team of Chikwendu, Williams, Tyson Cotchery and Munoz also win the regional title in 3:15.33.
The Franklin boys made history winning the Region 1-6A title with 40 points, by one point over Allen. Franklin received 20 points for each of its relay wins.
Eastwood’s Danny Torres will run in two events at the UIL Class 6A Track and Field Championship. Class 5A
El Paso High’s Miles Westbrook won the Region 1-5A championship in the 3,200 meters in 9:25 and the 1,600 meters in 4:21.08.
Burges’ Malin Arnoldusen, finished second in the 800 meters in 1:55.91.
El Dorado’s Miguel Chapa, won the 400 meters with a time of 47.88 seconds and Americas’ Diego Romero finished second in the 1,600 meters with a time of 4:21.60.
The Chapin girls 800-meter relay team of Aliyah Rosario, Sianna Butler, Aahniyah Clayton and Laurin Gardner won the regional title in 1:40.34.
San Elizario’s Génesis Rubio qualified for state in the discus after finishing second at the Region 1-4A championship with a mark of 125 feet, 11 inches.
Class 4A

The Franklin 400-meter relay of Ernesto Powers, Ikenna Chikwendu, Diego Lira and Elias Munoz won the Class 6A area championship in 40.64.
Franklin sophomore Michael Montoya was fourth in the 110-meter hurdles in 14.84 at the Class 6A area championship.
Franklin senior Elias Munoz finished third in the 100 meters in 10.39 at the Class 6A area championship.
Eastwood senior Devin Falk-Ramirez reached a personal best in the triple jump finishing second at the Class 6A area championship with a leap of 45-feet, 4.50 inches.
Clint junior Matthew Portillo cleared a personal best height of 14-feet in the pole vault at the Class 4A area championship.
Chapin junior Ethan Zamora ran a season best 14.79 to win the Class 5A area 110-meter hurdles championship.
El Dorado junior Miguel Chapa ran a personal best 47.63 to win the Class 5A area championship in the 400 meters.
El Dorado senior Daniel Well ran a city best 300-meter hurdles time, racing to a 38.83 to win the Class 5A area championship.

Chapin’s 400-meter relay team of Laurin Gardner, Sianna Butler, Aahniyah Clayton and Aliyah Rosario posted a city best46.78 at the Class 5A area championship.
Chapin freshman Laurin Gardner won the 100-meter dash in 11.76 to capture the Class 5A area championship and the long jump leaping 18- feet, 1 inch.

Eastwood senior Adelynn Rodriguez, left, won 3,200 meters at the Class 6A area championship in 11:23.11. Teammate freshman Nati Gomez was third in 11:37.59. Both will compete at regionals this weekend.

The Burges 800 runners have been dominate this season. Malin Arnoldussen leads the city with a Burges, followed by Jacob Yeager, Burges (1:54.16). Two other runners are also in the top 10 – Jesus Gastelum-Bustamante (8th, 1:58.27) and Iskander Vargas, Burges (10th, 1:59.20).
