Every Thursday, El Paso Running will utilize a point system to highlight El Paso’s top boy’s cross country runners.
The system is as follows: In a race of less than 150 runners, first place gets 10 points, second gets 9 points all the way down to 10th place which gets 1 point. For meets with between 150 to 300 runners, double points will be rewarded meaning 20 points for first, 19 for second all the way down to 1 point for 20th. For every additional 150 runners, another 10 runners will be included in the points.

Top 10
1. Eastwood: Eastwood did not run a full varsity squad, but still managed anther team win at the Tornillo Invitational. All five scoring runners finished in the top 10 finished with 23 points. Top runners were senior Jonah Herd Jr. (second, 16:09.43), senior Evan Chacon (third, 16:16.92), freshman Ayden Betancourt (fourth, 16:17.32), sophomore Adam Nunez (fifth, 16:39.50) and sophomore Lorenzo Espino (tenth, 17:03.66). Eastwood was also ranked No. 5 this week in the South Region by DyeStat. Eastwood will race at the Cathedral/Loretto Invitational Saturday at Veterans Park.
2. Franklin: The Cougars finished third at the 222-runner, 29-team Southlake 5K Invitational with 139 points. Its 1-split was an impressive 30 seconds. The team had four runners in the top 35 — sophomore Richard Mendoza was 15th in 15:27.40, senior Fransisco Medina was 19th in 15:30.10, senior Sebastian Mendez was 32nd in 15:33.90 and freshman Michael Villa was 35th in 15:43.80 — all season bests. The team is scheduled to race at the Cathedral/Loretto Invitational Saturday at Veterans Park.
3. Coronado: The T-Birds easily won the Ysleta Invitational on Friday at Blackie Chesher taking the first three spots for 20 points. Humberto Serna won his first race of the fall in a season-best 15:21.06. Rodrigo Pinales was second in 15:51.20 followed by Sebastian Leyva (third, 16:01.31), Stephan Gonzalez (sixth, 16:19.56) and Jordan Gonzalez (tenth, 16:35.65). Coronado will race at the Cathedral/Loretto Invitational Saturday at Veterans Park.
4. Pebble Hills: The Spartans were seventh at the 403-runner, 35-team Joe I. Vigil Invitational in Alamosa, Colo. Top 50 runners were Erick Gutierrez (15th, 16:13.7), Gavin Cottle (46th, 17:03.5) and Christian Morales (48th, 17:09.4). The team is scheduled to race at the Cathedral/Loretto Invitational Saturday at Veterans Park.
5. San Elizario: The Eagles were second at the Tornillo/San Elizario Invitational at Tornillo with 33 points. Senior Antonio Arreola won his first race of the season in 15:49.60 followed by junior Angel Bocanegra (seventh, 16:43.26), senior Alexander Cano (eighth, 16:44.31) and sophomore Daniel Maese (ninth, 16:49.92). San Elizario will race at the Cathedral/Loretto Invitational Saturday at Veterans Park.
6. Socorro: The Bulldogs did not run a full varsity team last weekend. The team is scheduled to run at the El Paso Invitational at Mary Keisling Park on Saturday.
7. Montwood: The Ramsfinished 15th at the 403-runner, 35-team Joe I. Vigil Invitational in Alamosa, Colo. Senior Julian Franco ran a season-best 16:03.7 and placed 11th. William Carreto was the only other top 100 runner, placing 99th in 17:57.8. Montwood will race at the Cathedral/Loretto Invitational Saturday at Veterans Park.
8. El Paso High: The Tigers were third at the Ysleta Invitational at Blackie Chesher despite the absence of its top runner Andrew Truax. Freshman Eduardo Cardenas (12th, 16:47.36) and junior Logan Luchenbill (13th, 16:47.36) lead the team. El Paso is scheduled to race at its own invitational Saturday at Mary Keisling Park.
9. Hanks: A week removed from dropping out of the top 10, the Knightsreturn after its second-place finish at the Ysleta Invitational. Mateo Diaz was fourth in 16:13.90 and Darian Hernandez was fifth in 16:16.98. Hanks is scheduled to race at the El Paso Invitational at Saturday at Mary Keisling Park..
10. Austin: The Panthers did not run a full team at the Ysleta Invitational and move down a spot. Senior Eirik Arredondo was seventh in 16:22.36. Austin is scheduled to race at the Cathedral/Loretto Invitational Saturday at Veterans Park.
