Every Thursday, El Paso Running will utilize a point system to highlight El Paso’s top boy’s cross country runners.

The system is as follows: In a race of less than 150 runners, first place gets 10 points, second gets 9 points all the way down to 10th place which gets 1 point. For meets with between 150 to 300 runners, double points will be rewarded meaning 20 points for first, 19 for second all the way down to 1 point for 20th. For every additional 150 runners, another 10 runners will be included in the points.

For those who like raw times, we also list the Top 25 boys race times and the meets and dates that they occurred.

Clint/Riverside Invitational:  8 a.m. Saturday at Clint High School. Andress, Austin, Jefferson, Chapin, Clint, Riverside, Harmony, Bel Air, Hanks, Horizon, Parkland, Montwood, San Elizario, Anthony, Ft. Hancock, Gadsden, LPI, Chaparral, Santa Teresa, Eastwood.

McNeil Invitational:  8 a.m. Saturday at Old Settlers Park, Round Rock. Franklin, El Paso, Burges.

Top 10

1. Eastwood: Trooper runners took six of the top eight spots to easily win the Loretto/Cathedral Open at Veterans Park, scoring 20 points. Junior Job DeSantos was second in 16:13.14 followed by senior Luke Cruz (third, 16:16.57), senior Marcos Madrid (fourth, 16:17.52), sophomore Noah Loweree (fifth, 16:19.89), junior Jonah Herd Jr. (sixth, 17:05.19), and sophomore Elias Alcocer (eighth, 17:12.67). The team is scheduled to race at the Clint/Riverside Invitational Saturday at Clint High School.  

2. Franklin: The Cougars did not race last week. They are scheduled to race the state course (Old Settlers Park) at the McNeil Invitational in Round Rock.

3. Burges: The Mustangs dominated the El Paso High Invitational Saturday at Mary Frances Keisling Park placing five runners in the top nine for 26 points. Senior Jesus Gastelum-Bustamante won his first invitational of the season, racing to a 16:11.51. Senior Malin Arnoldussen was fourth in 16:34.65, senior Jacob Yeager was fifth in 16:37.98, senior Carlos Chavez was seventh in 17:02.48 and senior Iskander Vargas was ninth in 17:07.38. The team is scheduled to race at the McNeil Invitational in Round Rock on Saturday.

4. Pebble Hills: The Spartans did not run their top runners at the Loretto/Cathedral Open at Veterans Park. Sophomore Nathan Martinez turned in a top 10 performance, finishing 10^th in 17:22.31.

5. Coronado: The T-Birds did not run its full varsity team at the El Paso High Invitational Saturday at Mary Frances Keisling Park. Senior Max Sandhu was second in 16:15.65 and junior Rodrigo Pinales was third in 16:19.29. Coronado will race at its own invitational: Friday at Don Haskins Recreation Center.

6. San Elizario: The Eagles finished second at the Loretto/Cathedral Open with 104 points. Junior Antonio Arreola was ninth in 17:13.31. The team will race the Clint/Riverside Invitational Saturday at Clint High School.  

7. El Paso High: The Tigers were without Miles Westbrook but still managed to finish in third at their own invitational at Mary Frances Keisling Park. Senior Ulysses O’Rourke ran a 16:47.76, good for sixth place. They are scheduled to race at the McNeil Invitational Saturday at Old Settlers Park.

8. Austin: The Panthers did not run its full varsity squad at the Loretto/Cathedral Open at Veterans Park. Senior Pedro Jimenez managed a seventh-place finish, completing the course in 17:09.85. Expect them to be at full strength at the Clint/Riverside Invitational Saturday at Clint High School.  

9. Socorro: The Bulldogs move up a spot after its 99-point, fourth-place finish at the El Paso High Invitational. It’s top two runners were sophomore Jorge Mendez (12^th, 17:24.99) and freshman Jose Chavez (14^th, 18:04.77). The team will race at the Coronado Invitational at the Don Haskins Recreation Center.

10. Hanks: The Knights return to the top 10 on the strength of its fourth-place finish at the Loretto/Cathedral Open. It’s top two runners were junior Zerach Hernandez (12^th, 17:23.63) and freshman Mateo Diaz (18^th, 17:32.10). Hanks will race the Clint/Riverside Invitational Saturday at Clint High School.  

Dropped out: Eastlake.

1. Eastwood: The Troopers placed four runners in the top 8 to easily win the Tornillo Invitational with 23 points. Senior Danny Torres won his third individual title, winning in 16:20.68. Sophmore Elias Alcocer was third in 17:13.35, junior Jonah Herd Jr. was fourth (17:13.78) senior Nathan Arreola was seventh (17:37.25) and junior Evan Chacon was eighth in 17:59.35. Eastwood will race Saturday’s Loretto/Cathedral Open at Veterans Park.

2. Franklin: The Cougars finished the Southlake Carroll Invitational in 11^th place. It’s top two runners were juniors Sebastian Mendez (54^th, 16:06.10 49) and Fransisco Medina (58^th, 16:09.50 52). The team will not race this weekend.

3. Burges: The Mustangs easily won the Mt. View/Fabens Invitational scoring 21 points. Malin Arnoldussen was the low-stick man finishing second in 16:36.63 followed by EIsais Gaytan (fourth, 16:46.28), Jacob Yeager (fifth, 16:46.55) and Jesus Gastelum-Bustamante (sixth, 16:54.07). Burges will race the El Paso High Invitational Saturday at Mary Frances Keisling Park.

4. Pebble Hills: The Spartans finished fourth at the 28-team, 304-runner Joe Vigil Invitational in Alamosa, Colo. Junior Ameen Ibrahim was 19^th in 16:58.75 followed by sophomore Erick Gutierrez (22^nd, 17:04.02), freshman Adrian Cisneros Rodriguez (29^th, 17:15.58 28) and sophomore Gavin Cottle (33^rd, 17:19.10 31). The Spartans are scheduled to race at the Loretto/Cathedral Open at Veterans Park on Saturday.

5. Coronado: The T-Birds did not run a full team at the Hanks Invitational at Blackie Chesher Park but managed to have two runners in the top 8 – junior Humberto Serna won gold in 16:23.47 and senior Max Sandhu was eighth in 17:09.12. The team will race the El Paso High Invitational Saturday at Mary Frances Keisling Park.

6. San Elizario: The Eagles had four runners in the top 9 at their own invitational and finished second with 34 points. Junior Antonio Arreola was second in 16:47.08 followed by Alexander Cano (fifth, 17:31.69), freshman Angel Richarte (sixth, 17:32.65) and sophomore Jorel Miramontes (ninth, 18:01.03). The team will race at the Loretto/Cathedral Open.

7. El Paso High: The Tigers did not race last weekend. They will race at their own invitational Saturday at Mary Frances Keisling Park.

8. Austin: The Panthers move up two spots after finishing third at the Hanks Invitational. Senior Pedro Jimenez was seventh in 17:03.43. Austin will compete at the Loretto/Cathedral Open at Veterans Park on Saturday.

9. Eastlake: The Falcons finished three points behind Austin at the Hanks Invitational. Caleb Bearden was the team’s top runner finishing 18^th in 17:53.83. They will race the Loretto/Cathedral Open at Veterans Park on Saturday.

10. Socorro: The Bulldogs did not race last weekend. They will race the El Paso High Invitational Saturday at Mary Frances Keisling Park.

Pebble Hills: Pebble Hills won the Montwood Invitational at Blackie Chesher Park with 38 points, placing four runners in the top 10 – senior Jorge Soto (sixth, 17:28.22), senior Ameen Ibrahim (seventh, 17:42.40), junior Erick Gutierrez (eighth, 17:44.19) and junior Gavin Cottle (tenth, 17:54.64). The Spartans are scheduled to race at the Lubbock Invitational on Saturday morning.

5. Coronado: The T-Birds were second at the Montwood Invitational at Blackie Chesher Park with 47 points. Coronado runners finished 1-2-3 with junior Humberto Serna picking up his first win of the season in 16:40.55. Senior Max Sandhu was second in 17:05.86 and junior Rodrigo Pinales was third in 17:08.74. The team will compete at the Hanks Invitational at Blackie Chesher Park Friday.

6. San Elizario: The Eagles move up two spots after its second-place finish at the Mt. View/Fabens Invitational. San Elizario had two runners in the top 6 – junior Antonio Arreola was third in 19:46.95 and freshman Angel Bocanegra was sixth in 20:35.04. The team will race at the Tornillo Invitational on Saturday.

7. El Paso High: The Tigers dropped a spot after its third-place finish at the Mt. View/Fabens Invitational. Senior Miles Westbrook picked up his second individual title of the season, winning in 18:43.33. Senior Ulysses O’Rourke was fifth in 20:30.24. They will race the Hanks Invitational at Blackie Chesher Park on Friday morning.

8. Eastlake: The Falcons did not race last weekend. They will race the Hanks Invitational at Blackie Chesher Park on Friday morning.

9. Socorro: The Bulldogs return to the Top 10 after placing third with 97 points at that Montwood Invitational. Its lone top 10 runner was junior Zerach Hernandez who was ninth in 17:50.53. They will race the Hanks Invitational at Blackie Chesher Park on Friday morning.

10. Austin: The Panthers remain steady at No. 10 after its fourth-place finish at the Montwood Invitational with 99 points. Its top runner was senior Pedro Jimenez who was fourth in 17:13.48. Austin will compete at the Hanks Invitational at Blackie Chesher Park on Friday.

Every Thursday, El Paso Running will utilize a point system to highlight El Paso’s top boy’s cross country runners.

The system is as follows: In a race of less than 150 runners, first place gets 10 points, second gets 9 points all the way down to 10th place which gets 1 point. For meets with between 150 to 300 runners, double points will be rewarded meaning 20 points for first, 19 for second all the way down to 1 point for 20th. For every additional 150 runners, another 10 runners will be included in the points.

For those who like raw times, we also list the Top 25 boys race times and the meets and dates that they occurred.

Top 10

1. Eastwood: The Troopers easily won the Stars & Strides Twilight Invitational, scoring 37 points in the 20 team, 157 runner race at the Eastside Sports Complex. Senior Danny Torres finished second behind Organ Mountain senior Corbin Coombs who won in 14:57.38, two seconds ahead of Torres’ 14:59.71. Four Eastwood runners finished in the top 10 and six in the top 18. Top 10 runners were senior Marcos Madrid (seventh, 16:02.50), sophomore Noah Loweree (eighth, 16:03.40) and junior Job DeSantos (ninth, 16:07.76). Senior Luke Cruz was 11^th in 16:10.27 and sophomore Elias Alcocer was 18^th in 16:39.30. The Troopers are not racing this weekend.

2. Franklin: The Cougars were a distant second at the Stars & Strides Twilight Invitational, scoring 89 points. Franklin managed to get three runners in the top 20 – junior Jacob Martinez was tenth in 16:08.40, junior Sebastian Mendez was 13^th in 16:25.10 and junior Fransisco Medina was 19^th in 16:42.17. The team is not racing this weekend.

3. Burges: The Mustangs were fifth with 137 points at the Stars & Strides Twilight Invitational, placing two runners in the top 20. Senior Jesus Gastelum-Bustamante was 14^th in 16:26.85 and senior Malin Arnoldussen was 16^th in 16:37.54. The team will race the Mt. View/Fabens Invitational on Saturday.

4. Pebble Hills: The Spartans did not race last weekend. They are scheduled to race the Montwood Invitational at Blackie Cheser Park on Saturday.

5. Coronado: Junior Humberto Serna finished fifth in 15:55.06 at Eastwood’s Stars & Strides Twilight Invitational.  Junior Rodrigo Pinales was 17^th in 16:37.58 to help the T-Birds finish sixth with 180 points. The team will compete at the Montwood Invitational at Blackie Cheser Park on Saturday.

6. El Paso High: The Tigers scored 240 points and finished seventh at the Stars & Strides Twilight Invitational. Senior Miles Westbrook continues his strong season, finishing fourth in 15:47.50. They are expected to race the Mt. View/Fabens Invitational on Saturday.

7. Eastlake: The Falcons jump back in the top 10 after finishing eighth at the Stars & Strides Twilight Invitational with 284 points. Eastlake’s top runner was junior Diego Romero-Alvarado was 57^th in 17:55.00. Eastlake will race not race its varsity this weekend.

8. San Elizario: The Eagles were ninth at the Eastwood Twilight Invitational, finishing with 302 points. Junior Antonio Arreola came at 25^th place in 16:58.57. The team is schedule to race the Mt. View/Fabens Invitational on Saturday.

9. Hanks: The Knights move up one after its tenth-place finish at the Eastwood Twilight Invitational, two points behind San Elizario. Junior Zerach Hernandez was 34^th in 17:11.64. The team will race the Montwood Invitational at Blackie Cheser Park on Saturday.

10. Austin: The Panthers finished 11^th at the Eastwood Twilight Invitational with 312 points. Junior Eirik Arredondo was the top runner, placing 40^th in       17:26.09. Austin will race at the Montwood Invitational at Blackie Cheser Park on Saturday.

1. Eastwood: The Troopers won the Canutillo Invitational placing five runners in the top 9 for a score of 26. Leading the way was senior Danny Torres who won for the second week in a row, racing to an early city best 14:40.61. Sophomore Noah Loweree was third in 15:18.18 followed by senior Marcos Madrid (sixth, 15:30.57), senior Luke Cruz (seventh, 15:31.03) and junior Job DeSantos (ninth, 15:44.81). The team will race at its own invitational Friday night at the Eastside Sports Complex.

2. Franklin: The Cougars won their own invitational at Mary Frances Keisling Park with a perfect score of 15. All seven runners finished in the top 10 including gold medalist junior Jacob Martinez who finished the rugged course in 16:51.36 followed by junior Sebastian Mendez (second, 17:18.46), junior Fransisco Medina (third, 17:35.65), junior Bryant Standage (fourth, 17:48.07), junior Sebastian Camacho     (fifth, 17:59.20), senior Eric Martinez (sixth, 18:01.07) and senior Aiden Ramirez (tenth, 18:20.53). Franklin will race at the Eastwood Twilight Invitational Friday night.

3. Burges: The Mustangs move up four spots after its impressive second place showing at the Canutillo Invitational, scoring 87 points. Senior Jacob Yeager was eighth in 15:34.50 to led four Burges runners in the top 21. Senior Jesus Gastelum-Bustamante was 11^th in 15:48.88, senior Malin Arnoldussen was 13^th in 16:07.23    and senior Isais Gaytan was 21^st in 16:37.37. The Mustangs will race at the Eastwood Twilight Invitational Friday night.

4. Pebble Hills: The Spartans finished third at Canutillo with 95 points. The team had four runners in the top 20 – junior Erick Gutierrez (16^th, 16:17.47), senior Ameen Ibrahim (17^th, 16:21.10), senior Jorge Soto (19^th, 16:23.82) and junior Gavin Cottle (20^th, 16:34.59). The team is not scheduled to race this weekend.

5. Coronado: The T-Birds had a runner in the top 5 and two more in the top 15 and placed fourth with 105 points at the Canutillo Invitational. Junior Humberto Serna was fifth in 15:21.20, senior Max Sandhu was 14^th in 16:11.52 and junior Rodrigo Pinales was 15^th in 16:13.14. The team will compete at the Eastwood Twilight Invitational Friday night at the Eastside Sports Complex.

6. El Paso High: The Tigers drop three spots after its fifth-place finish at Canutillo, scoring 137 points. Senior Miles Westbrook was second in 14:55.26      and senior Ulysses O’Rourke was tenth in 15:46.54. They will get back after it on Friday night at the Eastwood Twilight Invitational.

7. San Elizario: San Eli did not run a full team at Canutillo. They will for Friday night’s Eastwood Twilight Invitational at the Eastside Sports Complex.

8. Austin: The Panthers placed a respectable sixth place at the Canutillo Invitational with two runners in the top 25 – senior Pedro Jimenez (12^th, 15:57.21) and junior Luis Pereda (25^th, 16:40.15). Austin will race at the Eastwood Twilight Invitational Friday night.

9. Americas: Trailblazers senior Diego Romero was fourth in 15:18.85 and the team finished seventh in the 13-team, 104-runner Canutillo Invitational. The team will run at the Eastwood Twilight Invitational Friday night Canutillo Invitational on Saturday.

10. Hanks: The Knights make its season debut after finishing second at the Franklin Invitational at Mary Frances Keisling Park. Hanks placed two runners in the top 10 – junior Zerach Hernandez (seventh, 18:06.94) and freshman Mateo Diaz (eighth, 18:17.30). The team will race at the Eastwood invitational Friday night at the Eastside Sports Complex.

Top 10

1. Eastwood: The Troopers ended last season placing eighth in Class 6A at the UIL State Championship. All State runner Danny Torres returns for his senior year after finishing fifth at state.  Expectations are high again as the team is ranked No. 5 in Texas. The team is fresh off a first-place finish at the 2.8 mile Del Valle’s Midnight Madness run where Torres took first place honors in 13:20.92. Trooper runners took six of the top 10 spots including sophomore Noah Loweree (second, 14:33.53), senior Marcos Madrid (third, 14:35.32), senior Luke Cruz (fifth, 14:48.09) junior Job DeSantos (sixth, 15:08.62) and sophomore Elias Alcocer (tenth, 15:12.54). Eastwood is schedule to race at the Canutillo Invitational on Saturday.

2. Franklin: The Cougars are coming off their second straight state appearance, finishing tenth. Franklin lost five solid seniors and are in rebuilding mode with only a pair of juniors returning – Jacob Martinez and Sebastian Mendez. Franklin’s season begins Saturday at Mary Frances Keisling Park.

3. El Paso High: The Tigers finished eighth at state in Class 5A and might be stronger this year. The Tigers are led by three seniors, All State runner Miles Westbrook, Lorenzo Shields and Ulysses O’Rourke. The team won the Andress Invitational at Veterans Park placing four runners in the top seven. Westbrook and O’Rourke were one-two in 15:24.07 and 16:47.24. Senior Andrew Hernandez was sixth in 18:18.31 and junior David Luchenbill was seventh in 18:30.43. El Paso is schedule to race at the Canutillo Invitational on Saturday.   

4. Pebble Hills: The Spartans are primed for a solid season. The team placed six runners in the top 10 at its own invitational at Biggs Field. Senior Ameen Ibrahim was second in 16.40.61, Andrew Truax was third in 16.44.11, senior Jorge Soto was fourth in 16.53.92, junior Erick Gutierrez was seventh in 17.12.77, sophomore Adrian Cisneros was eighth in 17.17.33 and junior Gavin Cottle was ninth in 17.18.67. The team is schedule to race at the Canutillo Invitational on Saturday.

5. Coronado: The T-Birds could be the surprise team of the season. The team placed three runners in the top 8 at the Del Valle Midnight Madness run and finished second.  Junior Humberto Serna was fourth in 14:41.48, Max Sandhu was seventh in 15:10.04 and junior Rodrigo Pinales was eighth in 15:11.59. The 205-runner race was 2.8 miles. The T-Birds will race at the Canutillo Invitational at Canutillo Middle School on Saturday.

6. San Elizario: The Eagles finished fourth in Class 4A at the State Championship, 11 points shy of a bronze medal. The Eagles, which are state ranked at No. 5, graduated three of its top five and are looking to fill those spots. San Eli placed three runners in the top 18 at the Del Valle Midnight Madness and finished third. Leading the way was junior Antonio Arreola who was ninth on the 2.8-mile course in 15:12.03 followed by sophomore Angel Boccanegra (13^th, 15:20.44) and junior Alexander Cano (18^th, 15:37.70). The team will race at the Canutillo Invitational on Saturday.

7. Burges: The Mustangs have a solid core of runners including seniors Jacob Yeager, Malin Arnoldussen, Jesus Gastelum-Bustamante and Carlos Chavez. The team had three runners in the top 11 at the Pebble Hills Invitational at Biggs Field. Yeager was sixth in 17.07.24, Arnoldussen was tenth in 17.33.17 and Chavez was 11^th in 17.44.92. Burges will compete at the Canutillo Invitational on Saturday.

8. Austin: The Panthers return many of the runners that earned them a District 1-4A championship last fall including individual district champion, senior Pedro Jimenez. Austin got off to a fast start to the season, placing five runners in the top 10 at the Andress Invitational at Veterans Park. Jimenez was third in 17:05.46 followed by junior runners Eirik Arredondo    (fourth, 18:03.62), Luis Pereda (fifth, 18:04.72), Omar Mesta (ninth, 19:15.66) and senior Edgar Rodriguez (tenth, 19:24.33). Austin will race at the Canutillo Invitational on Saturday.

9. Americas: The Trailblazers have one of the city’s top runners in senior Diego Romero. The drop to District 2-5A will help Americas on their journey back to regionals but that will depend on the development of returning runners senior Max Messsina, junior Miguel Galvan and sophomore Austin Garza. Romero did well, winning the first race of the year, racing to a 16.09.27 at the Pebble Hills Invitational at Biggs Field. The team will run at the Canutillo Invitational on Saturday.

10. Eastlake: The Falconsa team on the rise. The team had five runners in the top 20 at the Andress Invitational at Veterans Park. Sophomore Caleb Beardon finished 12^th in 17.48.82 while junior Diego  Romero-Alvarado was 15ht in 17.59.86. Other top 20 runners were sophomore Sean Jurado (18^th, 18.09.14), junior Oscar Ponce (19^th, 18.23.64) and sophomore Sebastian  Flores (20^th, 18.24.36). Eastlake will compete at the Franklin Invitational at Mary Frances Keisling Park on Saturday.

Every Thursday, El Paso Running will utilize a point system to highlight El Paso’s top boy’s cross country runners.

The system is as follows: In a race of less than 150 runners, first place gets 10 points, second gets 9 points all the way down to 10th place which gets 1 point. For meets with between 150 to 300 runners, double points will be rewarded meaning 20 points for first, 19 for second all the way down to 1 point for 20th. For every additional 150 runners, another 10 runners will be included in the points.

Top 10

1. Eastwood: The Troopers end the season as the top team in the city after finishing eighth in Conference 6A at the UIL State Championship with 221 points. Junior Aidan Torres finished in fifth-place finish making him the third El Paso runner to earn a top 5 state finish at the 6A level. Last year, Pebble Hills’ Omer Ibrahim was fifth in 15:50.6 and Eastwood’s Daniel Bernal finished third in 2016 in 14:49.72. Other top 100 runners were senior Sulliman Rodriguez (46th, 15:56.6), senior Leo Espino (82nd, 16:16.0) and junior Luke Cruz (86th, 16:18.1).

2. Franklin: The Cougars, who made state for the second straight year, was tenth with 243 points. Its top 100 runners were senior Matthew Engle (18^th, 15:29.6), senior Juan Leal (40^th, 15:52.5) and senior Gabriel Uranga (89^th, 16:19.2). Engle;s top 20 finish earned him All State honors.

3. San Elizario: The Eagles had four runners in the top 50 and finished fourth in Conference 4A at the State Championship with 138 points, 11 points shy of a bronze medal. Three San Elizario runners earned All State honors – senior Angel Maese (12^th, 16:05.8), senior Julian Guerra (13^th, 16:16.9) and sophomore Antonio Arreola (21^st, 16:24.5). Arreola had a city top 25 time and personal best. Senior Bryan Hernandez was 39^th in 16:47.6.

4. El Paso High: The Tigers finished eighth at state in Conference 5A at the with 206 points. Junior Miles Westbrook earned All State honors finishing 15^th in 15:48.0. Top 100 runners were senior Leo Valenzuela (43^rd, 16:19.9), junior Lorenzo Shields (94^th, 17:00.1), senior Aydan Lugo (96^th, 17:01.1), junior Ulysses O’Rourke (97^th, 17:02.1) and senior Joaquin Moya (98^th, 17:03.8).

5. Coronado: The T-Birds were eighth at the Region 1-6A championship. However, senior Edgar Valles competed in the Conference 6A state championship and finished 31^st in 15:46.7.

6. Pebble Hills: The Spartans finished fourth at the District 1-6A Championship. Senior Mark Barajas advanced to state and finished 60^th in 16:03.6.

7. Chapin: The Huskies finished its season finishing 10^th in Region 1-5A with 312 points.

8. Burges: The Mustangs finished its season with a 12^th-place finish at regionals.

9. Del Valle: The District 2-5A champions finished 17^th at the Region 1-5A championship.

10. Bel Air: The Highlanders placed 19^th at the Region 1-5A championship.

Top 10

1. Franklin: The Cougars advanced to the state championship for a second straight time after placing third with 111 points at the Region 1-6A championship in Lubbock. Its top five runners were all in the top 50 including two in the top 15 – seniors Matthew Engle (seventh, 15:22.30) and Juan Leal (12^th, 15:31.9, a personal best). Engle earned All-Region honors. Senior Gabriel Uranga was 27^th in 16:09.5, sophomore Sebastian Mendez was 42^nd in 16:20.2 (a personal best) and senior Adan Castillo was 46^th in 16:23.2. They will race Nov. 4 at 8:10 a.m. at Old Settler’s Park.

2. Eastwood: The Troopers earned a spot back to state, finishing fourth in the Region 1-6A championship in Lubbock, scoring 129 points. The team had two in the top 20 and four in the top 45. Junior Aidan Torres earned a silver medal in a time of 15:16.10. He was also named All Region. Senior Sulliman Rodriguez was 20^th in 15:58.0, senior Leo Espino was 30^th in 16:12.5 and junior Luke Cruz was 45^th in 16:21.7. The team will race Nov. 4 at 8:10 a.m. at Old Settler’s Park.

3. San Elizario: San Elizario advanced to state after its second-place finish at the Region 1-4A championship. Four runners earned All-Region honors – senior Julian Guerra (fourth, 16:18.70), senior Angel Maese (fifth, 16:40.20), sophomore Antonio Arreola (seventh, 16:58.50) and senior Bryan Hernandez (tenth, 17:04.20). Senior Gustavo Salazar        was 39^th in 18:08.90. The Eagles will race in the Class 4A State Championship race at 11:10 a.m. Nov.4 in Round Rock.

4. El Paso High: The Tigers move up one after winning the Region 1-5A team championship with 104 points. All five of its top runners finished in the top 50, including junior Miles Westbrook who earned All-Region honors with a fourth-place finish in 15:44.10. Senior Leo Valenzuela was 21^st in 16:34.80 followed by junior Ulysses O’Rourke (27^th, 16:50.60), senior Aydan Lugo (35^th, 17:02.00) and junior Lorenzo Shields (50^th, 17:11.5). El Paso will race for a Class 5A state medal at 8:10 a.m. Nov. 3 in Round Rock.

6. Pebble Hills: Senior Mark Barajas represented the Spartans well, finishing 14^th at the Region 1-6A Championship in a season-best 15:42.0 to earn a trip to state. He will run at 8:30 a.m. Nov. 4 in Round Rock.

Every Thursday, El Paso Running will utilize a point system to highlight El Paso’s top boy’s cross country runners.

The system is as follows: In a race of less than 150 runners, first place gets 10 points, second gets 9 points all the way down to 10th place which gets 1 point. For meets with between 150 to 300 runners, double points will be rewarded meaning 20 points for first, 19 for second all the way down to 1 point for 20th. For every additional 150 runners, another 10 runners will be included in the points.

Region 1 Cross Country Championship. Monday, Oct. 23 – (All times MST) 5A Girls, 8 a.m.; 5A Boys, 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24 – 6A Girls, 8 a.m.; 6A Boys, 8:30 a.m.; 4A Girls, 11 a.m.; 4A Boys, 11:30 a.m.at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.

Top 10

1. Eastwood: The Troopers won the District 1-6A championship placing four runners in the top 9 for 36 points. Junior Aidan Torres was second in 16:17.32 followed by senior Sulliman Rodriguez (sixth, 17:02.99), senior Leo Espino (seventh, 17:11.54) and junior Luke Cruz (ninth, 17:13.62). This is Eastwood’s 12^th district championship in 13 years. The team will race for a spot to state at the Region 1-6A Championship Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. in Lubbock.

2. Franklin: The Cougars finished second at the District 1-6A championship with 44 points. Senior Matthew Engle won his first individual championship in 16:09.60. Senior Juan Leal was fourth in 16:51.75 and sophomore Gabriel Uranga was tenth in 17:16.90. Franklin is going after a return trip to state at the Region 1-6A Championship Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. in Lubbock.

3. San Elizario: San Elizario earned a perfect score of 15 with seven runners placing in the top 9 to earn its eleventh straight District 2-4A championship. Senior Julian Guerra raced to his first district individual title, winning in 17:08.14. Senior Angel Maese was second in 17:32.23 followed by sophomore Antonio Arreola (third, 18:16.25), senior Bryan Hernandez (fourth, 18:28.49), senior Gustavo Salazar (fifth, 18:48.39), sophomore Alexander Cano (seventh, 19:26.95) and freshman Jorel Miramontes (ninth, 19:35.72). The Eagles will race for another trip to state in the Region 1-4A meet at 11:30 a.m. Tuesday.

4. Coronado: The T-Birds were third in the District 1-6A Championship with 76 points. The T-Birds top runner was senior Edgar Valles who was fifth in 16:54.69. The team will race for a spot to state at the Region 1-6A Championship Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. in Lubbock.

5. El Paso High: The Tigers defended their District 1-5A title, easily winning with 21 points. El Paso runners took the top four spots – junior Miles Westbrook won his second district individual title in 16:46.48 followed by classmate Ulysses O’Rourke (second, 17:31.37), senior Aydan Lugo (third, 17:39.87) and senior Leo Valenzuela (fourth, 17:44.76). The Tigers will be looking to advance to state at the Region 1-5A Championship on Monday at 8:30 a.m. in Lubbock.

6. Pebble Hills: The Spartans were fourth at the District 1-6A Championship and missed out on a trip to regionals. However, senior Mark Barajas was eighth (17:12.93) and advances to the Region 1-6A Championship Tuesday at 8:30 a.m. in Lubbock.

7. Chapin: The Huskies move up one after finishing second at the District 1-5A meet with 49 points.  Chapin had three runners in the top 8 – senior Sean Sanchez (fifth, 17:52.22), senior Jose Rosa Garcia (sixth, 18:00.96) and junior Braulio Torres (eighth, 18:06.75). The team will compete in the Region 1-5A Championship Monday in Lubbock.

8. Burges: The Mustangs drop a spot after their third-place finish at the District 1-5A Championship. Burges had three runners in the top 10 – junior Jesus Gastelum-Bustamante (seventh, 18:01.20), junior Christian Baca (ninth, 18:11.77) and junior Malin Arnoldussen (tenth, 18:16.75). The team will compete in the Region 1-5A Championship Monday in Lubbock.

9. Del Valle: The Conquistadors move up a spot after winning the District 2-5A championship with 37 points. Junior  Damian Espinosa was second in 18:02.69, freshman Jordan Diaz was fifth in 18:42.94, senior Jorge Ceniceros was seventh in 19:20.49 and senior Cesar Ruiz was tenth in 19:33.28. Del Valle advances to the Region 1-5A Championship Monday in Lubbock.

10. Hanks: The Knights move back in the Top 10 after its second-place finish at the District 2-5A championship with 46 points. Sophomore Zerach Hernandez was fourth in 18:27.58, senior Abel Navejas was eighth in 19:29.63 and senior Ruben Ortega was ninth in 19:30.59. The Knights will race at the Region 1-5A Championship Monday in Lubbock.

1. Franklin: Franklin’s varsity did not race at the All City Meet at Horizon Golf Course. The team is preparing for the District 1-6A Championship on Oct. 12 at Horizon Golf Course. The Cougars are seeking its second straight district championship.

2. Eastwood: The Troopers finished fourth in the 242-runner, 30-team Sweepstakes Division of the Desert Twilight XC Festival at Toka Sticks Golf Course in Mesa, Ariz. Eastwood had two runners in the top 25 – junior Aidan Torres was third in 15:11.8 and senior Leo Espino was 23^rd in 15:49.5. The team will race for a spot to regionals at the District 1-6A Championship on Oct. 12 at Horizon Golf Course.

3. San Elizario: The Eagles finished tenth in the 242-runner, 30-team Sweepstakes Division of the Desert Twilight XC Festival at Toka Sticks Golf Course. Seniors Julian Guerra (28^th, 15:53.8) and Angel Maese (44^th, 16:05.7) were the top runners for       San Elizario. The Eagles will be chasing its tenth consecutive District 1-4A title next week.

4. Coronado: The T-Birds won the All City Meet at Horizon Golf Course with 34 points. Coronado placed four runners in the top 8 – senior Edgar Valles (third, 16:28.99), sophomore Humberto Serna (fifth, 16:46.27), junior Max Sandhu (seventh, 16:57.14) and sophomore Rodrigo Pinales was eighth in 17:03.27. The team will race for a spot to regionals at the District 1-6A Championship on Oct. 12.

5. El Paso High: The Tigers finished second at the All City Meet at Horizon Golf Course with 53 points. The team had three runners in the top 9 including junior Miles Westbrook (second, 16:13.57), senior Leo Valenzuela (fourth, 16:42.73) and junior Ulysses O’Rourke (ninth, 17:05.00). The Tigers are looking to defend its District 1-5A title on Oct. 12 at Horizon Golf Course.

7. Burges: The Mustangs were fourth at the All City Meet with 137 points. Sophomore Jesus Gastelum-Bustamante was tenth in 17:08.55 and senior Esteban Armendariz was 15^th in 17:36.614. The team will race at the District 1-5A Championship Oct. 12 at Horizon Golf Course.

8. Chapin: The Huskies split its squad at Nike South in The Woodlands. Senior Sean Sanchez ran the Elite Division and finished 91st in 16:43.9 while the others raced in the regular varsity division. Out of 543 runners, junior Braulio Torres was 54^th in 17:14.6 and senior Dauntae Herrera was 57^th in 17:16.1. The team will compete in the District 1-5A Championship Oct. 12 at Horizon Golf Course.

9. Bel Air: The Highlanders move up one after finishing sixth at the All City Meet. The team had two in the top 20 – senior Leonardo Resendez (14^th, 17:31.19) and senior Hernnan Duarte (20th, 17:49.41). Bel Air will attempt to defend the District 2-5A title on Oct. 12.

10. Del Valle: The Conquistadors move back into the top 10 after finishing 10^th in the 246-runner, 34-team Large School Division at the Desert Twilight XC Festival at Toka Sticks Golf Course in Mesa, Ariz. Junior Damian Espinosa finished ninth in 17:05.6. 12 and freshman Jordan Diaz was 26^th in 17:37.0.  Del Valle will race for a spot to regionals at the District 2-5A Championship on Oct. 12.
