Every Wednesday, El Paso Running will utilize a point system to highlight El Paso’s top girls cross country runners.
The system is as follows: In a race of less than 150 runners, first place gets 10 points, second gets 9 points all the way down to 10th place which gets 1 point. For meets with between 150 to 300 runners, double points will be rewarded meaning 20 points for first, 19 for second all the way down to 1 point for 20th. For every additional 150 runners, another 10 runners will be included in the points.

This week’s schedule
Region 1 Cross Country Championship. Monday, Oct. 23 – (All times MST) 5A Girls, 8 a.m.; 5A Boys, 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 24 – 6A Girls, 8 a.m.; 6A Boys, 8:30 a.m.; 4A Girls, 11 a.m.; 4A Boys, 11:30 a.m.at Mae Simmons Park in Lubbock.

Top 10
1. Franklin: Franklin won its sixth straight District 1-6A title placing all seven runners in the top 10, scoring 20 points. Sophomore Emily Orr led the way finishing second in 20:05.43, followed by senior Brooke McCune (third, 20:16.11), sophomore Abigail Pinon (fourth, 20:48.26), junior Sophia Keiser (fifth, 20:58.50), senior Victoria Hoyt (sixth, 21:07.77), junior Olivia Elder (seventh, 21:15.13) and junior Sienna Zarate (tenth, 21:35.76). The Cougars are seeking its fourth trip to state in five years. They will race in the Class 6A division Tuesday at 8 a.m.
2. Eastwood: The Troopers finished second in District 1-6A with 81 points. Junior Adelynn Rodriguez defended her individual title, winning in 19:42.69. Eastwood will race in the Class 6A division on Tuesday at 8 a.m.
3. Chapin: Chapin easily won the District 1-5A title with 20 points. Husky runners took five of the top 10 spots, including the first four. Junior Rebecca Duran won the individual title in 20:58.51 followed by sophomore Ava Dennis (second, 21:07.64), junior Biviana Garcia (third, 21:40.69), freshman Jocelyn Diaz Torres (fourth, 21:58.03) and freshman Abigail Sanchez (tenth, 23:07.85). The team will compete in the Region 1-5A Championship Monday at 8 a.m.
4. Pebble Hills: The Spartans qualified for regionals after its third-place finish at the District 1-6A championship. Senior Caroline Zarrabal was the lone top 10 runner, finishing eighth in 21:23.59. The team will race in the Region 1-6A championship on Tuesday at 8 a.m.
5. Hanks: The Knights defended its District 2-5A crown and move up two spots, finishing one spot short of a perfect score. Hanks had six runners in the top 10 including district champ sophomore Lily Arias who completed the course in 21:37.29, sophomore Ashlyn McMillan was second in 21:48.56 followed by junior Elizabeth Aguirre (third, 21:58.83), senior Destinee Loeza (fifth, 23:07.57), freshman Alyssa Fino (sixth, 23:26.44) and sophomore Madison Leedom (tenth, 24:12.16). The team will race for a spot to state Monday at 8 a.m.
6. Americas: The Trailblazers finished fourth in District 1-6A. Its top runner was junior Laila Morales who was 14th in 22:08.51. Their season has ended.
7. El Paso High: The Tigers finished second in District 1-5A and advanced to regionals. El Paso runners in the top 10 were senior Andrea Castillo (sixth, 22:35.48), freshman Sofia Speer (seventh, 22:52.05) and sophomore Calista Sakellakos (eighth, 22:52.38). The team will race for a spot at state Monday at 8 a.m.
8. Montwood: The Rams placed fifth at the District 1-6A meet. Sophomore Mia Hairston was ninth in 21:29.70 and advanced to regionals. She will race on Tuesday at 8 a.m.
9. San Elizario: The Eagles move up one after winning back-to-back District 2-4A titles, placing five runners in the top 9 for 33 points. Senior Kylee Pardo finished the 2-mile course third in 14:09.83 followed by senior Alexandra Ordaz (sixth, 14:54.16), freshman Lyanna Morales (seventh, 15:10.00), senior Osmary Vazquez (eighth, 15:23.76) and senior Briana Mancillas (ninth, 15:32.75). The team will race in the Region 1–4A championship at 11 a.m. Tuesday.
10. Bel Air: The Highlanders Bel Air finished second in District 2-5A with 59 points and move back into The top 10. Bel Air had two runners in the top 10 – senior Kailee Fierro (seventh, 23:39.84) and junior Carolyna Noriega (eighth, 23:51.60). The team will race in the Regional 5A race Monday at 8 a.m.
