High School Girl’s Cross Country Poll: Week 10

Every Wednesday, El Paso Running will utilize a point system to highlight El Paso’s top girls cross country runners.

The system is as follows: In a race of less than 150 runners, first place gets 10 points, second gets 9 points all the way down to 10th place which gets 1 point. For meets with between 150 to 300 runners, double points will be rewarded meaning 20 points for first, 19 for second all the way down to 1 point for 20th. For every additional 150 runners, another 10 runners will be included in the points.

For those who like raw times, we also list the Top 25 girls race times and the meets and dates that they occurred.

UIL State Cross Country Championship. Friday, Nov.  3 – (All times MST) 5A Girls, 7:30 a.m.; 5A Boys, 8:10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 4 – 6A Girls, 7:30 a.m.; 6A Boys, 8:10 a.m.; 4A Girls, 10:40 a.m.; 4A Boys, 11:10 a.m.at Old Settler’s Park in Round Rock.

Top 10

1. Franklin: The Cougars finished fourth at the Region 1-6A Championship and advanced to state for the fourth time in five years. Franklin had five runners in the top 50 in the 174-runner field. Sophomore Emily Orr had an All-Region performance, finishing fifth in 18:25.70. Senior Brooke McCune was 36^th in 19:26.4, sophomore Abigail Pinon was 39^th in 19:29.8, junior Sophia Keiser was 46^th in 19:37.2 and senior Victoria Hoyt was 50^th in 19:41.5. They will race Nov. 4 at 7:30 a.m. at Old Settler’s Park.

2. Eastwood: The Troopers finished 15^th at the Region 1-6A Championship. Junior Adelynn Rodriguez was eighth in 18:34.20, earned All-Region honors and advanced to state. She will race at 7:30 a.m. Nov. 4.

3. Chapin: Chapin finished fourth at the Region 1-5A Championship and advanced to state. Two runners, juniors Rebecca Duran and Ava Dennis, had top 50 performances. Duran ran a personal best 19:18.50 and placed 13^th while Dennis was 34^th in 20:22.60. Freshman Jocelynne Diaz Torres also had a strong showing, finishing 51^st in 20:45.5. The team will compete in the UIL State Championship Nov. 3 at 7:30 a.m.

4. Pebble Hills: The Spartans finished 19^th at the Region 1-6A Championship. Sophomore Aubrey Arsenault ran a personal best 20:08.8 and finished 72^nd.

5. Hanks: The Knights finished eighth at the Region 1-5A Championship. Hanks had two runners in the top 45 – junior Elizabeth Aguirre (41^st, 20:34.3) and sophomore Lily Arias (44^th, 20:37.1).

6. Americas: The Trailblazers season ended with a fourth-place finish in District 1-6A.

7. El Paso High: The Tigers finished their season in 16^th place at the Region 1-5A Championship. Senior Andrea Castillo was the lone top 50 runner, placing 46^th in 20:39.5.

8. Montwood:  Sophomore Mia Hairston finished her season at the Region 1-6A Championship placing 86^th in 20:33.3.

9. San Elizario: The Eagles finished ninth at the Region 1-4A Championship. San Elizario had two runners in the top 25 – senior Kylee Pardo (20^th, 13:06.46) and senior Alexandra Ordaz (23^rd, 13:09.93). Pardo advances to state and race at 10:40 a.m. on Nov. 4.

10. Bel Air: The Highlanders were 20^th at the Region 1-5A Championship. Its top runner was senior Kailee Fierro who was 108^th in 22:24.9.
