Every Wednesday, El Paso Running will utilize a point system to highlight El Paso’s top girls cross country runners.
The system is as follows: In a race of less than 150 runners, first place gets 10 points, second gets 9 points all the way down to 10th place which gets 1 point. For meets with between 150 to 300 runners, double points will be rewarded meaning 20 points for first, 19 for second all the way down to 1 point for 20th. For every additional 150 runners, another 10 runners will be included in the points.

District Championships: 8 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 9 at Horizon Golf Course. District 1-6A girls, 8 a.m.; 1-6A boys, 8:40 a.m.; District 1-4A girls (2-miles), 9:15 a.m.; District 2-4A girls (2-miles), 9:45 a.m.; District 1-4A boys, 10:10 a.m.; 2-4A boys, 10:35 a.m.; District 1-5A girls, 11:05 a.m.; 1-5A boys, 11:35 a.m.; District 2-5A girls, 12:10 p.m.; 2-5A boys, 12:40 p.m.

Top 10
1. Eastwood: The Troopers finished fourth in the 28-team, 222 runner Sweepstakes Division of the Desert Twilight Invitational at Toka Sticks Golf Resort in Mesa, Ariz. Eastwood had three runners in the top 20 lead by freshman Kylie Vega (11th, 18:03.2), followed by sophomore Natalia Gomez (16th, 18:13.0) and sophomore Carlee Caraveo (17th, 18:16.1). Eastwood is looking to break the six-year District 1-6A winning streak of the Franklin Cougars Oct. 9 at Horizon Golf Course.
2. Franklin: The Cougars finished 17th in the 28-team, 222 runner Sweepstakes Division of the Desert Twilight Invitational. Senior Emily Orr had a top 10 run, finishing in 17:57.0. Sophomore Sophia Barraza was the only other top 100 runner, placing 84th in 19:36.3. The team will be chasing its seventh District 1-6A championship in a row Oct. 9 at Horizon Golf Course.
3. Pebble Hills: The Spartans did not race last week. Pebble Hills is looking to qualify for the Region 1-6A championship for its second consecutive year Oct. 9 at Horizon Golf Course.
4. Socorro: The Bulldogs placed five runners in the top 8 to win the Andress Invitational at Underwood Golf Course. Senior Nadine Villasana was second in 21:33.43 followed by junior Addy Carbone (third, 21:55.64), Anisa Chavira (fourth, 22:51.57), senior Valentina Tarriba (fifth, 23:11.57) amd junior Emily Zarate (eighth, 23:36.10). Socorro will challenge for the third and final spot to the Region 1-6A championship Oct. 9 at Horizon Golf Course.
5. Eastlake: The Falcons were second at the 7-team, 48-runner 6A Division of the Lubbock Invitational at Mae Simmons Park. Freshman Ave Molina was eighth in 20:15.50 and sophomore Vitalia Hernandez was ninth in 20:17.30. The team will compete for a spot to regionals at the District 1-6A championship Oct. 9 at Horizon Golf Course.
6. Americas: The Trailblazers were fifth in the 15-team, 101-runner 5A Division of the Lubbock Invitational at Mae Simmons Park. Junior Carli Day was third in 19:57.50 and sophomore Isabelle Bolly was fourth in 20:41.00. Americas will compete for the District 2-5A championship Oct. 9 at Horizon Golf Course.
7. Coronado: The T-Birds move up one after its race in the 24-team, 206-runnerChampionship Divisionof the of the Desert Twilight Invitational. Sophomore Alejandra Torres was 109th in 21:21.9 and senior Emma Sassenfeld was 117th in 21:30.2. The team will compete for a spot to regionals at the District 1-6A championship Oct. 9 at Horizon Golf Course.
8. Montwood: The Rams move up two spots after placing three runners in the top 10 at the Andress Invitational at Underwood Golf Course. Senior Mia Hairston won her second race of the season in 20:32.61. Junior Bella Loy was seventh in 23:18.73 and sophomore Ryley Warhurst was ninth in 24:03.79. Montwood will race at the District 1-6A championship Oct. 9 at Horizon Golf Course
9. Burges: The Mustangs return to thetop 10 after its sixth-place finish in the 15-team, 101-runner 5A Divsision of the Lubbock Invitational at Mae Simmons Park. Freshman Allyson Yturralde was 11th in 21:27.30 and junior Sayuri Ulloa was 12th in 21:32.60. Burges is looking to improve on its third-place District 1-5A finish last year. The team will race Oct. 9 at Horizon Golf Course.
10. Hanks: The Knights drop three spots after its eighth-place finish in 5A Divsision of the Lubbock Invitational. Senior Ashlyn McMillian continues her great year, placing second in 19:30.10. Hanks is looking for a 3-peat in the District 2-5A championship Oc.9 at Horizon Golf Course.
10. Fabens: The Wildcats drop one after its 11th place finish at the 20-teams 149-runner 4A Divsision of the Lubbock Invitational. Junior Alexia Martinez was fourth in the 2-mile race in 12:19.50. Junior Angel Quiñonez was 20th in 13:31.20. Fabens will compete for the District 2-4A crown Oct. 9 at Horizon Golf Course.
