Boy’s Track and Field Top 10 Times an Distances: Week 10

There were 9 city best times and marks set at the Area Championships.

Andress senior Jeremiah Cooper picked up a personal best 10.76 in the 100 meters to win the Class 5A District 1&2 Area Championship. Franklin sophomore Jordan Morales, ran the exact same time and also had a personal best to win the Class 6A District 1&2 Area Championship.

Eastwood senior George Garcia set a personal best 48.90 in the 400 meters to win the Class 6A District 1&2 Area Championship.

The Andress 400-meter relay team of Charlie Bass, Jeremiah Cooper, Malachi Do, Elijah Munoz) raced to a 41.70 to win the Class 5A District 1&2 Area Championship.

The Andress 800-meter relay team of Charlie Bass, Jeremiah Cooper, Malachi Do, Elijah Munoz raced to a1:27.73 to win the Class 5A District 1&2 Area Championship.

The Franklin 1,600-meter relay team of Ethan Perea, Isaac Romero, Jordan Morales and  Rai Lopez raced to a 3:23.84 to finish second at the Class 6A District 1&2 Area Championship.

Horizon junior Ricardo Leyva set a personal best in the high jumpto win the Class 5A District 1&2 Area Championship with a jump of 6 feet, 7 inches.

Parkland junior Demarion Crest Daniels set a personal best in the long jump to win the Class 5A District 1&2 Area Championship with a jump of 22 feet, 7 inches.

Riverside junior Angel Munoz set a personal best mark of 44.11.25 in the triple jump to win the Class 4A District 1&2 Area Championship.

My love of running began with my son Deric. His passion and talent for distance running opened my eyes to a sport I never imaged I would embrace with such enthusiasm. As a journalist at the El Paso Times, I was the lead writer for cross country and track for several years and I was able to tell the stories of these amazing unsung athletes. Never a runner myself, I decided to change that when I turned 50 in 2016 when I trained for my first 5K. I've been running ever since and I love every minute of it - well - sort of.
