Boy’s Track and Field Top 10 Times and Distances: Week 7

There were four city best times posted at the Texas Distance Festival, Chapin Invitational and the Ysleta Invitational.

For the second consecutive week Parkland senior Kenneth Golston improved on his city best time. He ran a 1:56.77 inthe800 meters at the Texas Distance Festival in Southlake.

Austin senior Aaron Jackman, ran a personal best 11.31 in the 100-meter dash at the Chapin Invitational.

Americas senior Sir Drennan set a personal best in the 200-meters, racing to a city best 22.39 at the Chapin Invitational.

Eastwood’s 400-meter relay took top city honors with 43.21 at the Ysleta Invitational. No names were provided.

Pebble Hills won the Chato Relays at Socorro’s Student Activities Complex with 104 points followed by San Elizario (100), Eastlake (98), Montwood (58), Socorro (54), Irvin (20) and Tornillo (10).

Chapin won the Chapin Invitational with 130 points followed by Americas (125), Coronado (102), Austin (76), Canutillo (74), El Paso (59), El Dorado (30) and Cathedral (9).

Eastwood won the Ysleta Invitational with 175.5 points followed by Burges (142.5), Parkland (133), Del Valle (63), Ysleta (37), Hanks (33), Riverside (13), Bel Air (12) and Mt. View (3).

My love of running began with my son Deric. His passion and talent for distance running opened my eyes to a sport I never imaged I would embrace with such enthusiasm. As a journalist at the El Paso Times, I was the lead writer for cross country and track for several years and I was able to tell the stories of these amazing unsung athletes. Never a runner myself, I decided to change that when I turned 50 in 2016 when I trained for my first 5K. I've been running ever since and I love every minute of it - well - sort of.
