Boy’s Track and Field Times and Distances: Week 3

The third week of the track and field season resulted in nine city best times and marks at the Jim Omohundro Invitational at Eastwood, Irvin Invitational and the SISD Invitational.

Top performances include:

Parkland senior DJ Crest set a personal best 22.29 in the 200 at the Irvin Invitational.

Coronado senior Cade Little ran a personal best 49.73 in the 400 at the Jim Omohundro Invitational at Eastwood.

Pebble Hills senior Omer Ibrahim set a personal best 1:55.52 in the 800 at the SISD Invitational.

Tornillo junior Daniel Romero ran a personal best 9:33.52 in the 3,200 at the Jim Omohundro Invitational at Eastwood.

Immanuel Christian junior Josiah Johnson set a personal best in the 300 hurdles, clearing the in 38.22 at the Jim Omohundro Invitational at Eastwood.

Eastlake senior Caleb Emery tossed the shot put 55 feet, 7.5 inches at the SISD Invitational.

Pebble Hills senior Kole Pellerito had a personal best discuss throw of 158 feet, 4 inches at the SISD Invitational.

Coronado junior Owen Levesque had a personal best pole vault, clearing the bar in 14-feet, 6-inches at the Jim Omohundro Invitational at Eastwood.

El Dorado senior Dezmond Gonzalez took over the city’s top spot in the long jump, leaping 22 feet, 0.25 inches at the SISD Invitational.

My love of running began with my son Deric. His passion and talent for distance running opened my eyes to a sport I never imaged I would embrace with such enthusiasm. As a journalist at the El Paso Times, I was the lead writer for cross country and track for several years and I was able to tell the stories of these amazing unsung athletes. Never a runner myself, I decided to change that when I turned 50 in 2016 when I trained for my first 5K. I've been running ever since and I love every minute of it - well - sort of.
