High School Boy’s Cross Country Poll: Week 3

Every Thursday, El Paso Running will utilize a point system to highlight El Paso’s top boy’s cross country runners.

The system is as follows: In a race of less than 150 runners, first place gets 10 points, second gets 9 points all the way down to 10th place which gets 1 point. For meets with between 150 to 300 runners, double points will be rewarded meaning 20 points for first, 19 for second all the way down to 1 point for 20th. For every additional 150 runners, another 10 runners will be included in the points.

For those who like raw times, we also list the Top 25 boys race times and the meets and dates that they occurred.

Eastwood has been the clear-cut No. 1 in El Paso this season, going 3 for 3 in team championship and junior Noah Loweree enjoying an unbeaten season.

Top 10

1. Eastwood: All five of Eastwood scorers finished in the top seven (including the top four spots) for a team score of 17 points at the 21-team, 188-runner Stars & Strides Invitational at Eastside Sports Complex. Junior Noah Loweree won the Friday night race in 15:26.72 followed by senior Job DeSantos (15:30.22), junior Elias Alcocer (15:31.84) and sophomore Jacob Lara (15:36.13). Sophomore Noah Garcia was seventh in 15:48.68. Other top 20 runners were sophomore Jaiden Melchor (17^th, 16:11.73) and senior Jonah Herd Jr. (18^th, 16:19.42). Eastwood will race Saturday the Socorro Invitational at Underwood Golf Course.

2. Franklin: The Cougars were second at the Stars & Strides Invitational with 51 points. Franklin had five runners in the top 15 — freshman Michael Villa (sixth, 15:48.1), sophomore Richard Mendoza (9^th, 15:53.59), senior Sebastian Mendez (10^th, 15:55.42), senior Fransisco Medina (11^th, 15:56.30) and senior Jacob Martinez (15^th, 16:06.83). Franklin will not race this weekend.

3. Coronado: The T-Birds scored 93 points enroute to a third-place finish at the Stars & Strides Invitational. Coronado had three runners in the top 16 including senior Humberto Serna (eighth, 15:51.53), senior Rodrigo Pinales (14^th, 16:03.06) and freshman Sebastian Leyva (16^th, 16:10.16). Coronado will race at the Socorro Invitational at Underwood Golf Course on Saturday.

4. Pebble Hills: The Spartans finished fourth at the Macen Holderman Invitational Saturday in Rio Rancho, N.M. with 121 points. Its top runner was junior Erick Gutierrez who was seventh in 15:52.0. The team will race Saturday at the Clint ISD Invitational at Mountain View High School.

5. San Elizario: The Eagles were fifth at the Stars & Strides Invitational with 178 points. Senior Antonio Arreola was 12^th in 15:56.96. The team will race Saturday at the Socorro Invitational at Underwood Golf Course.

6. Austin: For the second straight week, the Panthers did not run a full team at the Stars & Strides Invitational. Senior Eirik Arredondo was 21^st in 16:25.37. Austin will race Saturday at the Socorro Invitational at Underwood Golf Course.

7. El Paso High: The Tigers were sixth at the Stars & Strides Invitational with 211 points. Sophomore Andrew Truax was the team’s top runner, placing fifth in 15:43.77. El Paso will race Saturday at the Socorro Invitational at Underwood Golf Course.

8. Hanks: The Knights move up a spot after its seventh-place finish at the Stars & Strides Invitational. Hanks’ top runner was sophomore Mateo Diaz who was 32^nd in 16:56.67. Hanks will race Saturday at the Clint ISD Invitational at Mountain View High School.

9. Socorro: The Bulldogs move down one after finishing eighth at the Stars & Strides Invitational. Junior Jorge Mendez was the lone top 20 runner for Socorro, finishing 20th in 16:22.56. The team will run at its own invitational Saturday at Underwood Golf Course.

10. Eastlake: The Falcons were ninth at the 21-team, 188-runner Stars & Strides Invitational. Its top runner was junior Caleb Bearden who was 40^th in 17:08.44. Eastlake is scheduled to race at the Clint ISD Invitational at Mountain View High School on Saturday.

10. Montwood: The Ramsfinished ninth at the Macen Holderman Invitational Saturday in Rio Rancho, N.M. Its top runner was Julian Franco who was 11^th in 16:14.8. Montwood will race Saturday the Socorro Invitational at Underwood Golf Course.

Eastwood’s Stars & Strides Invitational at the Eastside Sports Complex featured 17 teams and 156 runners.

Top 10

1. Eastwood: Eastwood was second at the 17-team, 156-runner Stars & Strides Invitational at the Eastside Sports Complex. The Trooper placed four runners in the top 11 to finish with 54 points, 9 behind Los Alamos, N.M. Eastwood freshman Kylie Vega was third in 18:26.45, sophomore Natalia Gomez was sixth in 18:56.81, sophomore Carlee Caraveo was eighth in 19:04.84 and freshman Ava Ellison was 11^th in 19:30.93. Eastwood will race at the Socorro Invitational at Underwood Golf Course on Saturday.

2. Franklin: The Cougars were third at the Stars & Strides Invitational with 76 points. Senior Emily Orr won the individual race in 18:03.64. Sophomore Sophia Barraza was 15^th in 20:04.37 and senior Abigail Pinon was 18th in 20:18.42. The Cougars will not race this weekend.

3. Pebble Hills: The Spartans went on the road and finished seventh at the Macen Holderman Invitational Saturday in Rio Rancho, N.M. Amina Delgadillo was the top finisher, placing 29^th in 20:48.8. It was a season best for Delgadillo. The team will not race this weekend.

4. Americas: The Trailblazers finished tenth at the Macen Holderman Invitational Saturday in Rio Rancho. Junior Carli Day lead Americas, placing 28^th in 20:46.5, a season best. Americas will race at the Socorro Invitational at Underwood Golf Course on Saturday.

5. Eastlake: The Falcons placed fourth at the Stars & Strides Invitational with 122 points. Eastlake had three runners in the top 25 — freshman Ave Molina was 12^th (19:42.62), sophomore Vitalia Hernandez was 17^th in 20:17.34 and senior Elizabeth Bustillos was 22^nd in 20:31.99. Eastlake is scheduled to race at the Clint ISD Invitational at Mountain View High School on Saturday.

6. Hanks: The Knights were fifth at the Stars & Strides Invitational with 175 points. Senior Ashlyn McMillan was second overall in a season best 18:20.10. Hanks will race the Clint ISD Invitational at Mountain View High School on Saturday.

7. Socorro: The Bulldogs were seventh at the Stars & Strides Invitational with 178 points. Its top runner was junior Addy Carbone (28^th, 20:52.18). The team is expected to run at its own invitational at Underwood Golf Course on Saturday.

8. Coronado: The T-Birds were eighth at the Stars & Strides Invitational with 217 points. Its top runner was sophomore Ayana Le Than who was 25^th in 20:48.39. Coronado will race at the Socorro Invitational at Underwood Golf Course on Saturday.

9. Montwood: The Rams finished 14^th at the Macen Holderman Invitational Saturday in Rio Rancho. Mia Hairston was 10^th in 20:03.8, a season best.

10. El Paso High: El Paso makes its season debut after its ninth-place finish at the Stars & Strides Invitational. Freshman Alejandra Walker was the top runner, finishing 46^th in 21:35.21.

1. Eastwood: The Troopers easily won the Canutillo Invitational at the fast, flat course at Canutillo Middle School with 25 points. Eastwood had four runners in the top six including individual winner junior Noah Loweree (15:08.89). Senior Job DeSantos was second in 15:25.05, junior Elias Alcocer was fourth in 15:32.60 and sophomore Jacob Lara was sixth in15:38.09. Eastwood will race Friday night at the Stars & Strides Invitational at the Eastside Sports Complex.

2. Franklin: The Cougars began its season finishing second at the Canutillo Invitational with 60 points. Franklin had three runners in the top 10 — senior Sebastian Mendez was seventh in 15:45.09, senior Fransisco Medina was ninth in 15:48.40 and freshman Michael Villa was tenth in 15:48.66. Franklin will race Friday night at the Stars & Strides Invitational at the Eastside Sports Complex.

3. Coronado: The T-Birds move up two spots after its third-place finish at Canutillo with 84 points. Coronado’s top runner was senior Humberto Serna who was third in 15:28.39. Coronado will race Friday night at the Stars & Strides Invitational at the Eastside Sports Complex.

4. Pebble Hills: The Spartans drop a spot after placing fourth at Canutillo with 94 points. It’s top two runners were junior Erick Gutierrez (14^th, 16:04.73) and sophomore Adrian Cisneros Rodriguez who was 15^th in 16:05.88. The team will race at the Macen Holderman Invitational Saturday in Rio Rancho, N.M.

5. San Elizario: The Eagles were fifth at Canutillo with 133 points and drop a spot. Senior Antonio Arreola finished eighth in 15:45.90. They too will race Friday night at the Stars & Strides Invitational at the Eastside Sports Complex.

6. Austin: The Panthers did not run a full team at Canutillo, however, senior Eirik Arredondo had a top 20 finish, placing 18^th in 16:19.81. The team will race Friday night at the Eastside Sports Complex.

7. El Paso High: The Tigers move up a spot after placing sixth at the competitive Canutillo Invitational with 147 points. Sophomore Andrew Truax was the team’s top runner, placing fifth in 15:37.99. El Paso High will compete aat the Stars & Strides Invitational at the Eastside Sports Complex.

8. Socorro: The Bulldogs make its debut into the top 10 after winning the Fabens Invitational with 24 points. Socorro had four runners in the top 10 including the top three spots. Jorge Mendez won the event in 16:26.79, followed by Andrew Granillo (17:04.39) and Uziel Holguin (17:08.29). Sophomore Jose Chavez was tenth in 17:47.01. Socorro will race Friday night at the Stars & Strides Invitational at the Eastside Sports Complex

9. Hanks: The Knights drop two spots, finishing second at the Fabens Invitational with 47 points. Hanks had two runners in the top eight — senior Darian Hernandez was fourth in 17:18.12 and sophomore Mateo Diaz was eighth in 17:45.14. Hanks will race Friday night at the Stars & Strides Invitational at the Eastside Sports Complex.

10. Eastlake: The Falcons did not race last week. The team will compete at the Macen Holderman Invitational Saturday in Rio Rancho, N.M.

1. Eastwood: Eastwood won the Canutillo Invitational with 23 points, placing four runners in the top five and five in the top nine and take over the No. 1 spot. Freshman Kylie Vega was second in 18:17.57, sophomore Natalia Gomez was third in 18:55.10, sophomore Carlee Caraveo was fourth in 19:17.57, freshman Ava Ellison was fifth in 19:41.48 and senior Madison McGuire was ninth in 20:16.09. The weather (overcast) and the flat course with no turns at Canutillo Middle lead to many personal best times. Eastwood will race Friday night at the Stars & Strides Invitational at the Eastside Sports Complex.

2. Franklin: The Cougars were second at the Canutillo Invitational with 44 points and drop a spot in the Top 10. Senior Emily Orr won the individual race in 17:49.84 and senior Abigail Pinon was seventh in 20:07.40. Franklin will race Friday night at the Stars & Strides Invitational at the Eastside Sports Complex.

3. Pebble Hills: The Spartans finished third at the Canutillo Invitational with 81 points. Junior Kareena Talavera was the lone top 10 runner, finishing 10^th in 20:23.32. The team will race at the Macen Holderman Invitational Saturday in Rio Rancho, N.M.

4. Americas: The Trailblazers did not run a full team at the 2-mile Fabens Invitational, but two runners had top five finishes — junior Carli Day was third in 16:34.22 and sophomore Isabelle Bolly was fourth in 16:56.68. Americas will race Saturday at the Macen Holderman Invitational in Rio Rancho, N.M.

5. Eastlake: The Falcons did not race last week. The team will compete at the Macen Holderman Invitational Saturday in Rio Rancho, N.M.

6. Hanks: The Knights won the Fabens Invitational with 40 points. Senior Ashlyn McMillan won the event in 15:25.86 (two-mile) and junior Alyssa Fino was sixth in 16:59.16. Hanks will race Friday night at the Stars & Strides Invitational at the Eastside Sports Complex.

7. Socorro: The Bulldogs were second at the Fabens Invitational with three runners in the top 10 at the two-mile course. Nadine Villasana was eighth (17:10.68), Crystal Delgado was ninth (17:18.99) and Adelaide Carbone was tenth (17:21.47). The team will race Friday at the Eastside Sports Complex.

8. Coronado: The T-Birds began the season at the Canutillo Invitational and placed fourth with 123 points. Its top runner was sophomore Ayana Le Than who was eighth in 20:14.45. Coronado, which makes its Top 10 debut, will race Friday night at the Stars & Strides Invitational at the Eastside Sports Complex.

9. Chapin: The Huskies drop one spot after its fifth-place finish at Canutillo. Junior Jocelynne Diaz Torres was sixth in 19:56.87. The team will run Friday night at the Eastside Sports Complex.

10. Montwood: The Rams did not race Saturday. Montwood will race at the Macen Holderman Invitational Saturday in Rio Rancho, N.M.

10. Fabens: The Wildcats did not run a full team at their invitational. Junior Alexia Martinez finished second, completing the two-mile course in 16:28.52. The team will race Friday at the Eastside Sports Complex.

1. Eastwood: The Troopers finished second at the Region 1-6A Championship and fourth at last year’s UIL State Cross Country Championship, 14 points short of a bronze team medal. Despite the lack of state respect, Eastwood might find its way back to Round Rock. Eastwood won the Del Valle Midnight Madness Invitational with all 10 runners in the top 15, including nine in the top 10, to finish with 17 points. Junior Noah Loweree won the event in 16:09.28 followed by senior Job DeSantos (second, 16:13.18), junior Elias Alcocer (third, 16:21.49), sophomore Jacob Lara (fifth, 16:33.84), sophomore Noah Garcia (sixth, 16:35.81), senior Jonah Herd Jr. (seventh, 17:00.42), senior Evan Chacon (eighth, 17:07.94), sophomore Jaiden Melchor (ninth, 17:12.53), freshman Ayden Betancourt (tenth, 17:14.84) and sophomore Adam Nunez (14^th, 17:32.23). Eastwood will race at Canutillo Middle School on Saturday.

2. Franklin: Three seniors return from a seventh place Region 1-6A team. Seniors Sebastian Mendez, Fransisco Medina and Jacob Martinez look to steady the ship for the Cougars. They will race Saturday at Canutillo Middle.

3. Pebble Hills: The Spartans had a strong showing at its invitational at Underwood Golf Course placing five runners in the top 10. Erick Gutierrez won in 16:48.63, followed by Adrian Cisneros Rodriguez (second, 17:06.08), Anthony Yon (fourth, 17:09.65), Gavin Cottle (ninth, 17:43.04) and Christian Morales (tenth, 18:01.70). Pebble Hills will race at Canutillo Middle School on Saturday.

4. San Elizario: The young Eagles are a year older and look to return to the UIL Class 4A State Championship after missing out last year. San Elizario finished second at Del Valle’s Midnight Madness with 66 points. The Eagles were led by returning state-qualifier, senior Antonio Arreola who finished fourth in 16:33.79. Junior Angel Bocanegra was 16^th in 17:49.46 and sophomore Daniel Maese was 17^th in 17:51.00. They too will race at Canutillo Middle School.

5. Coronado: The T-Birds will be led by seniors Humberto Serna, Rodrigo Pinales and Zyler Garnica. Coronado will make its season debut at Canutillo Middle School on Saturday.

6. Austin: The Panthers finished second at the Pebble Invitational placing two runners in the top 10 — senior Eirik Arredondo (third, 17:09.08) and Luis Pereda (seventh, 17:22.70). Austin will challenge themselves at the Canutillo Invitational on Saturday.

7. Hanks: The Knights where third at the Del Valle Invitational with 90 points. Hanks finished with three in the top 20 — sophomore Mateo Diaz was 12^th in 17:30.81, senior Darian Hernandez was 15^th in 17:44.21 and senior Zerach Hernandez was 19^th in 17:52.28. They will race at Canutillo Middle School on Saturday.

8. El Paso High: The Tigers are in rebuild mode. The team was third at the Pebble Hills Invitational with 41 points. The team is led by sophomore Andrew Truax who was fifth last week in 17:11.66 and Eduardo Cardenas (eighth, 17:42.29). El Paso High will need some help from its pack of young runners to secure another trip to regionals. They will race Saturday at Canutillo Middle School.

9. Eastlake: The Falcons opened the season placing fourth at Del Valle with116. Its top runner was junior Caleb Bearden who was 11^th in 17:28.58. The team will travel to Canutillo Middle School on Saturday.

10. Montwood: The Ramslook to improve in District 1-6A, one of the toughest districts in the toughest region in Texas. The team finished fifth at Del Valle with 141 points. SeniorJulian Franco was 13th in 17:31.39. The team will race at Canutillo Middle School at Saturday.

1. Franklin: The Cougars ended last season one spot away from qualifying to its fifth trip to state in six years, finishing fifth at the Region 1-6A championship in Lubbock. Senior Emily Orr, who was 10^th at the Class 6A state championship, returns along with top 50 regional runners sophomore Sophia Barraza and senior junior Abigail Pinon. The team will start its season Saturday at Canutillo Middle School.

2. Eastwood: Eastwood won Del Valle’s Midnight Madness Invitational with 24 points, placing five runners in the top 10. Freshman Kylie Vega won the race in 19:23.71, sophomore Natalia Gomez was second in 19:46.62, sophomore Carlee Caraveo was fifth in 20:18.10, freshman Ava Ellison was sixth in 20:18.17 and senior Madison McGuire was 10^th in 21:40.06. Eastwood will race Saturday at Canutillo Middle School.

3. Pebble Hills: The Spartans won their own invitational with 32 points at Underwood Golf Course. Four Pebble Hill runners finished in the top 8 — Kareena Talavera, second (21:43.50), Haelee Enriquez, fourth (22:02.64), Amina Delgadillo, fifth (22:03.38) and Aubrey Arsenault, eighth (22:27.96). The team will race Saturday at Canutillo Middle School.

4. Americas: Two Trailblazer runner finished in the top 10 at the Pebble Hills Invitational at Underwood Golf Course. Sophomore Isabelle Bolly was sixth in 22:14.52 and defending District 2-5A champion, junior Carli Day was tenth in 22:34.44. Americas will race at Fabens High School on Saturday.

5. Eastlake: The Falcons finished second at the Del Valle’s Midnight Madness Invitational with 77 points. Eastlake had three runners in the top 20 — freshman Ave Molina was ninth in 21:33.05, senior Elizabeth Bustillos was 12^th in 22:00.38 and senior Marielle Rubio was 16^th in 22:13.91. Eastlake will race Saturday at Canutillo Middle School.

6. Hanks: The Knights placed three runners in the top 20 and finished third at the Del Valle Midnight Madness Invitational with 79 points. Senior Ashlyn McMillan was third in 19:50.59, junior Alyssa Fino was 13^th in 22:06.43 and senior Jessica Fino was 20^th in 22:57.09. Hanks will race at Fabens High School on Saturday.

7. Socorro: The Bulldogs were second at the Pebble Hills Invitational at Underwood Golf Course with 65 points. Socorro’s top two runners were Nadine Villasana (third, 21:52.98) and Adelaide Carbone (seventh, 22:17.63). The team will race Saturday at Canutillo Middle School.

8. Chapin: Junior Jocelynne Diaz Torres, a Class 5A state qualifier last year, won the Pebble Hills Invitational at Underwood Golf Course in 21:20.48. The Huskies did not run a full squad. The team will race Saturday at Canutillo Middle School.

9. Montwood: The Rams finished fourth at Del Valle with 149 points. Its top runner was senior Mia Hairston who was seventh in 20:54.18. The team will race Saturday at Canutillo Middle School.
